Concrete in my head today
Wow, what a lost day. I woke up with my head full of concrete today. Couldn't think fast at all. I just felt like I was in a huge fog.
I had a dentist appointment at 1040, so I was able to lay down for 1/2 an hour before Dan took me into town for my appointment. There was no way I could drive myself today as I was so foggy and tired, very tired.
I kept falling asleep while they were cleaning my teeth. The dentist said that the rest of my health may not be so hot but my teeth and gums are in great shape.
Dan brought me back home and I was so tired I could barely get out of the car. He helped me with lunch and then I crashed about 1230. I woke up at 5:30 PM!!!!
It is now 10:30 pm and I'm much clearer now, but still ready to head for bed. I have so much to do tomorrow I hope that I can drive!!

Entry for January 23, 2007
I've been fighting with my blood pressure for a couple of weeks now. It is slowly improving. I'm fighting being tired all of the time. It's been kind of a bummer.
We are still fighting the fungus. I'm not sure if Max is going to make it. He is extremely thin and has lost large patches of hair. We have been vacuuming daily to keep up with his hair loss. Dan said it is like having a cat on chemo.
We continue to get snow off and on and for the most part it is staying. The wind comes up and blows huge drifts across road, etc. This winter is certainly more like winter in Wyoming use to be.
There are so many new business in Casper since we got our second Walmart. We now have a Petco, Office Depot, Staples (we already had an Office Max), Starbucks (they are building a second one our side of town too), several new banks and credit unions. It's just incredible to see so much new construction.
I have some pictures to post of Max, Shi and Ozzie. Not a pretty sight.
Dan is still fighting with the home owner's insurance of the dog's owner for that dog bite. What an ordeal. They asked Dan what activities he was unable to do or to do with less frequency. When he told the lady that he missed out on hunting season, wasn't able to fish, was not able to bike ride and could not go hiking up on the mountain, she called him a liar and said nobody can do all of that and work full time. What a pain. If people just wouldn't let their dogs wander at large this would not have happened. It's not like Dan made the dog bite him!
I'm still busy developing and publishing our churches weekly Sunday morning bulletin. It is fun to do. But, to do it right, it really takes a lot out of me. It is a great ministry for me to be involved with though.
Dan's business is starting to pick back up again. November and December were a little leaner months with the holidays and all. He is just so excited about what he is doing and I love saving money on things that I need to buy anyway! We are going to the Winter National Convention in Atlanta, Georgia next month. I can't believe it is almost here. Dan has been to one convention already, but this will be my first. I sure hope I can keep up.

Entry for January 15, 2007-Monday
It is still cold here. The wind is picking up a little more and as of yesterday they had closed Casper Mountain Road until they can get it cleared off. We don't have any ice like the midwest states, just extreme cold and blowing snow.
Thursday Dan drove me around in the truck due to the volume of snow and the cold. Friday I was able to drive myself to town in the car. It did really well with its front wheel drive. We have so many stoplights put on the crest of hills, that it is often a nightmare for people with rear-wheel drive or bald tires to get going again. I saw many a car get half way up a steep hill and that was it. Even a semi got stuck in the same pickle, 1/2 way up a hill and sliding backwards.
I was really tired by the time I got back home on Friday. Saturday I felt really weak and lightheaded. My blood pressure was 95/60 and my heart rate was 125. So, I called Dan and asked him if he could take me to the ice rink and drop me off. I had a very hard time standing up and holding my arms up was very difficult. But I made it.
By 6pm my blood pressure had dropped down to 92/60 and my heart rate was 120. I just didn't feel very well.
Sunday Morning, my blood pressure was only 92/40 and my heart rate was 110. I was unable to stand up for any period of time and sitting up was extremely difficult. So, I was unable to go to church. I slept on the couch off and on most of the day. I thought if I rested and drank fluids that I would be able to go to the evening service. But, by 5pm my blood pressure was down to 82/40 and my heart rate was 105. I was not standing much at all and felt really bad. So, I missed evening church as well.
On a positive note, I have only missed one day of exercise since the beginning of the year. Most of the time I ride my exercise bike, I've also tried walking on the treadmill one day, that really, really hurt my heal. And I bought an old low impact aerobic DVD from amazon.com and I did that one day. It was really hard, but I think that the more I do it, the easier it will get.
So, Moday morning. Our temperature is 2 degrees and the windshield factor is -18 degrees. Our winds are about 21 mph. Not much wind yet. I don't have to go anywhere today, so that's good. Me being out in the extreme cold, really makes Dan nervous. The reason he is nervous about the cold is that I was told that extreme cold can cause coronary spasms. They believe a coronary spasm is what caused my heart attack.
My vitals for this morning are 92/49 and my heart rate is 91. I've lost 3 pounds over night. I'm sure my diuretic use is playing a factor in the drop in my blood pressure. It is a fine line in managing my excess fluid retention and my blood pressure. I haven't taken any diuretics for 3 days and I still continue to drop fluids. Which is good for me, but not for my blood pressure. It is so good to be able to breath again. I've lost a total of 8 pounds in fluid since last Monday.
Well, I need to iron a pile of Dan's shirts for this week.

Entry for January 11, 2007
IT IS COLD! Right now our windshield is 28 degrees below zero. 12 degrees below zero without the wind! I had to go out today, so Dan drove me and I wore darth vadar breathing face mask.
We've also gotten lots of snow today. At least 8 inches today and it is still snowing lightly. We are to get even colder tomorrow and more snow.
While I was at the ice rink today I was interviewed by the Casper Star Tribune and they took photos of my class and unfortunately of me. I hope they don't twist my words to badly, you never know what they are going to come up with!
I have been doing much better since Christmas. I noticed that I had been gaining weight, but thought that I had just been over-indulging. Then I noticed that my legs were extremely swollen with pitting edema. So, I went back on those diuretics starting on Monday. I had no results so I increased it on Tuesday with no results. So, I increased it to 1 full tab twice a day. Wouldn't you know, I've lost 5 pounds so far. I didn't realize how big my stomach had gotten until I woke up this morning and it was gone. Whew! What a relief! My legs are still swollen, but it is so much better. Someone even asked me how much weight I'd lost over the holidays! Totally cool!
I have also been riding my exercise bike everyday. I tried the treadmill one day, but it really hurt my heel. Yes, I am still battling with my heel. It is extremely painful to wear anything but clogs. Skating is extremely painful and difficult. I'm not able to do much thanks to the pain when I wear my skating boot. I'm not sure what is going to happen, but it is getting a little old.
I am doing some stretching exercises to try and help my foot/heel, but it is slow progress.
Hmm, you know it's cold when Dan stops wearing his shorts outside to take Ozzie out. He even put on his snow pants.
Well, I gotta go. Just remembered I forgot to take my heart pill. It was due a couple of hours ago.

Horrible Week Last Week
I think I last wrote on the 6th. My symptoms got worse and worse. I almost passed out in the middle of the night early Friday morning. Max got me up at 3am to feed him. I stood up and went out to the kitchen and became cold, clammy, nauseated, dizzy, it was horrible. I layed down on the couch as fast as I could. It took quite a while before I felt like moving.
Monday, the 10th, I finally felt better. Tuesday wasn't as good, but it was still a lot better than last week. Today, I'm nauseated and a little fatigued, but still better than last week.
My left heel has been bothering me for a couple of weeks up to the point where I'm just miserable to even put my skate on or any shoe that touches my heel. I finally called a podiatrist yesterday; and wouldn't you know it, they got me in today!
I have two things going on. First, I have "Plantar Fasciitis". That is an inflammation of the ligament running from my heel to the ball of my foot. This inflammation has led to another diagnosis called, "Plantar Nerve Entrapment". My foot is wrapped up and a large pad put just below the ball of my foot. (It feels like I'm walking on a big wadded up sock) Anyway, this process is called, "strapping". I have to wear this bandage for three days straight, I cannot take it off for any reason, not even to shower....YUCK! No shower until Saturday night!
After I wear this bandage for three days, then I have one that slips on and off that I will wear all the time except to shower and sleep. If I get up in the middle of the night, I must put the splint on, etc, etc. This will help the doctor to determine if wearing an orthotic device will improve my symptoms. If it is helpful, then he will prescribe some inserts for me. I didn't ask what happens if this doesn't work.
I go back to see him in one week. So, that's what I will be doing next Wednesday!
Now, the real problem is, how on earth am I going to get my foot into my skate for two lessons on Friday?! I can't even get it into my loose fitting clog!
It's always an adventure!
Weather: The wind is blowing full force today. Forgot to pull my hair back so I got hair whipped in the face. The weather channel said we are having high wind warnings with gusts up to 75 plus mph.
Max: The bald area around his eye no longer has sores on it, but it is still bald and the bald area is growing. It is now circling under his eye and heading back below his ear. Not sure what to do about it.
Coffee Pot: That is ongoing saga that I've never written about, but will when I have more time. It's actually more like Dan versus the coffee pots. Incidentally, the coffee pots are winning.

Entry for December 06, 2006
Although the wind has died down, my fatigue symptoms are still present, but not as severe. I'm able to set up for longer periods of time and get somethings done.
Animal news:
Max-above his left eye he has lost hair in a patch about the size of a quarter. This is the area where I had written earlier in the week that he was bleeding. Now, instead of scabs being present, there are two small boil looking things. He is also swollen in that area. Not sure what is going on with him. His appetite is good though, loves the rotisseri chicken from Walmart.
Bandit-It was four years ago today that we had to put Bandit to sleep. We can't believe that it has been so long!

Entry for December 04, 2006
It's definately winter in Wyoming. The wind is here in full force. Once again I'm reminded that my symptoms definately flare up in the winds. The fatigue is the worse and my orthostatic symptoms flare up as well. But definately the fatigue.
With the cold snap, 20 degrees and lower, Max is not doing well. He does this every winter. The cold is just not good for him. He looks absolutely miserable. He hit his head on something today and it was bleeding above his left eye. Just scuffed up a bit nothing major. But, I felt really bad for him.
Last week Dan was traveling all over the country. He was in Buffalo, WY; Spearfish, SD; Gillette, Wy; and Denver, CO. Other than the Denver trip, he made it back home everynight. What a road warrior!
Since my fatigue is back it is extremely difficult to make myself do anything, because I'm so exhausted all of the time. It is very frustrating to feel this way. I guess I'm alot like Max in that I just don't do as well in the winter.
That's enough for today.
